About me
I’ve travelled through time and space to write copy for you
What do I do?
I’m a freelance copywriter based in Umina Beach on the Central Coast in NSW.
I write fresh, funky, non-junky words that stand out and engage customers.
I help businesses of any size get sales through excellent, and creative, content. I saw a gap in the market for kick-ass copywriting with flair! I can dial it up and give you some super spunky writing or simply add a bit of wit into professional copy.
I don’t know about you, but I’m sick of seeing the same old same old copy clogging up my inbox. I click on the new, the fresh, the exciting!
I’m authentic, reliable, creative and a perfectionist.
What’s my experience?
Check out my portfolio for my latest client work!
I’ve also done several copywriting courses run by copy superstar Bernadette Schwerdt, via the Australian Writers Centre, and gotten some pretty awesome feedback. Bernadette thought my copy was so great that she encouraged me to go out and start getting paid for my work!
And going back a bit further..
I’ve always had an affinity for words.
I frequently help my friends craft CVs and do odd bits of writing for them. I also wrote ‘The Bachelor’ recaps for my old CEO, which swept like wildfire through the office, and birthed this website (you might notice it has since been repurposed)!
I also love the stars, nebulae, black holes! So much so that I completed a degree with a major in astrophysics and minor in ancient history.
Since then, I’ve racked up 12 years experience in technical roles across the IT space, dipping my toes in a plethora of industries, such as – internet services, legaltech, martech, medical software and insurtech. The tech industry is one that I know well and love. I am very comfortable writing about these industries as I have an excellent understanding of the sales and implementation process of tech products and Saas.
But, hang on..
You might being thinking ‘Pip – what the heck does physics and IT have to do with copywriting’?!
Fair enough..
However, there are a lot of transferrable skills!
What are they you ask?
Well, let me tell you.
I just fixed a broken umbrella with a tiny spring from my son’s old toy (where’s the fun in buying a new one?!).
Alllll my jobs have required problem solving, and my first love – physics – is the problem-solving discipline. Solutions are rarely straightforward, and many require thinking outside the box to ensure the customer gets what they want. I’ve gotten pretty darn good at creative thinking over the last 15 years and concocting the best way to engage your audience is a problem I can’t wait to sink my teeth into!
I lost my job at the beginning of Covid (remember that ol thing?) in 2020 – after close to 100 job applications and 50 interviews (it was a tough market!), I managed to land a job. If that doesn’t show perseverance, I don’t know what does!
The copywriting process can be lengthy and throw a curveball or two, years of solving lengthy, tough physics and customer problems has built up my resolve to be able to push through and see a project to completion.
Years of preparing presentations and guides for clients, as well as documenting experimental results, has honed this ability. I want to understand you and your needs, I’m that annoying person that will ask all those questions to grasp something better. I’ve always taken pride in my construction of words in written documents and am careful with what I say, choosing the right words is important to me.
Boy, do I know how to research. All those job interviews, especially during Covid, and the different industries I’ve worked in, have really sharpened this skill. I’ll know more about your business than you do by the end! Reviewing literature, becoming a subject matter expert, testing hypotheses – all springboards for new ideas and ways to approach your copy!
I’ve already mentioned my love of space, I also dig ancient history (pun intended). I’m a new mum to Marci, I have a wonderful husband and a pup – who’s a delicious little Biscuit (coincidentally that’s her name!) and accompanies me on my beach walks. I never shook my netball habit. I always have a pun in the oven! They are my favourite things ever.
Hi! My name is Biscuit – I am a kelpie x huntaway x border collie and have an absolutely insane amount of energy.
I am excellent at eating paper and you are what you eat (right?), so I have vast amounts of copywriting experience.
I also am a great communicator and barking at brush turkeys is a favourite past time. I have just mastered ‘down’ and am down to help mum win business with my adorable face.
You can contact me on biscuit@spacepip.com.au – I must say, my paws mean my replies are a real dog’s breakfast, but it’s the effort that counts right?!
